It’s no secret that the world is aging. In fact, according to the United Nations, the number of people aged 60 or over is projected to more than double by 2050. As this population segment continues to grow, it’s important to ask: why aren’t more baby boomers on YouTube? There are a number of potential reasons: baby boomers may find the technology too difficult to understand or figure out, they may find it too time consuming, or they may not feel that their experiences are valuable enough to share online. But whatever the reason, it’s important for this population segment to start using YouTube as a platform to express their views, share their stories and make money. Not only will this help young adults learn from the mistakes of their elders while sharing their experiences & stories, but it will also provide baby boomers with a much-needed outlet for their frustrations and concerns with the young world of today. So let’s encourage our older relatives and friends to start using YouTube today! It might just make the world a better place.
Now that we know baby boomers aged 60 or over is projected to more than double by 2050, we should treasure this time. This population segment is growing every day, and yet fewer and fewer of them are joining YouTube. Why is this?
There could be a number of reasons. Maybe the technology is intimidating and they have, for the most part, been pretty stand-offish when it comes to technology. For me, the screen created some sort of ray or something that caused a headache and dizziness. Now, they call it “Cybersickness”. I never understood it, but as technology progressed, this feeling lessened from the computer screens. They had extra screens you could put over your computer monitors, at that time, that helped alleviate that feeling a little. Now I don’t feel that Cybersickness as much. When I am on the computer for long periods of time, I still feel a similar effect. Now, back to the other Baby Boomers, I would just like to see more on YouTube sharing their values and culture with the world.

Whatever the reason, we should encourage our older relatives and friends to start using YouTube today. It’s a great platform for them to express their views and share their stories. And it might just make the world a better place.
I think, as baby boomers, living without our children because they have grown up, went to college, got married and moved away, has caused us to slow down a bit with technology. Meaning, we no longer have the young minds and hands helping us get things done on social media and working with technology. It can be very discouraging and depressing when you feel like you are the only one in your age group that is trying to figure out how to work a computer, let alone post a video on YouTube. My children and grandchildren are always having to help me with things and I don’t want to bother them or make them think I am not capable. What are your thoughts on this? Why do you think more baby boomers are not on YouTube? Please post a comment below.

“I read your blog post and I completely agree with you. It can be very discouraging for baby boomers when they feel like they are the only ones in their age group trying to figure out how to use technology.” My Mother used to always ask me to thread the needle for her, and now I totally understand that she was probably so grateful I was still of age and around to help her with that. This was during the time when we used to patch up holes in our socks, pants, dresses, not wear them as they do now with big holes in their clothes as this being the style.
Have you noticed, many baby boomers greeting you at the door of stores we frequent, with a smile and welcoming us? T I wonder if they are even being paid what they deserve. As a baby boomer, you are not always paid what you deserve. Well, that statement can go across the board to a lot of other categories of people. Is it worth standing on your feet all day? Is it worth the pain in your back at the end of the day? When you can sit at home, in your recliner and make a few videos on YouTube and get paid for it, which would you rather do? I think the answer is obvious.

I think more baby boomers should join YouTube because:
A. It is a great way to express their views and share their stories
B. It is a great way to earn some extra income
C. It might just make the world a better place
D. It can work as a social event
Is there actually a market for baby boomers on YouTube or blogging?
I am not sure, but I think that if baby boomers can find a niche market, then they could be successful on YouTube. For example, if there are a lot of baby boomers who like to garden, then they could start a gardening channel and share their tips and tricks with other gardeners. Or if there are a lot of baby boomers who are interested in history, they could start a history channel and share their knowledge with others. Oh, and for me, I am dibbling and dabbling in blogging and affiliate marketing.
The important thing is to find a market that is interested in what you have to say or what you are going to sell, and then create content that is relevant and helpful to them. If you can do that, then I think you will be successful on YouTube.
I hope this helps someone out there. If you have any other tips or advice, please feel free to share them in the comments below. And if you are a baby boomer who is successful on YouTube, I would love to hear from you! Thanks for reading! Thanks! 🙂 */
